Positions Available

Job Title: Box Office Associate

Department: Audience Services
Supervisor: Audience Services Manager

The Capital Stage Box Office Associate executes day-to-day box office operations. The box office associate’s principal responsibility is to respond to any patron request including single ticket and subscription sales, subscription fulfillment, seating assignment and changes, donation processing, gift certificate purchase, and others as needed.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to all patron requests in person, via phone or email. Return phone messages promptly.
  • Process single ticket and subscription sales and refunds.
  • Manage complimentary ticket requests.
  • Process and distribute gift certificates.
  • Work with patrons to secure preferred seating and process seat changes as needed.
  • Run will call for each performance. This includes printing tickets/patron manifests.
  • Account for all cash and check transactions according to company accounting procedures.
  • Open the theatre at the start of each shift.
  • Assist the Audience Services Manager with house management duties as requested.
  • Be available to accommodate a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Keep the box office area clean and organized at all times.
  • Work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Troubleshoot minor facility issues.

  • Excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Additional skills and experience that are preferred, but not required, include experience with Patron Manager or another Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including skills in Microsoft Office.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Have a valid California Drivers License with current auto insurance.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb 10 ft ladder.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This position will require between 25 – 40 hours per week and includes an hourly salary in the range of $13.50 to $15.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Capital Stage offers paid holidays, 2 weeks vacation/per year.

Job Title: Lead Carpenter

The Lead Carpenter, under the supervision of the Technical Director, is responsible for the construction, mounting, and rigging of scenery for Capital Stage productions. The Lead Carpenter supervises a crew of carpenters/apprentices in the construction of scenery and scenic elements. They may also be responsible for the maintenance of the scene shop equipment and supplies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to, and works closely with the Technical Director to implement scenic designs and special projects.
  • Oversees and works in conjunction with Capital Stage apprentices and other personnel as a member of the scenic construction team.
  • Consults with the Technical Director to fully understand the rules, regulations, safety procedures, and protocols to follow during the build. 
  • Assists the Technical Director in distribution of projects during the workday.
  • In conjunction with the Technical Director, trains and supervises Apprentices and personnel assigned to build and strike crews.
  • Verifies that all projects are built in accordance with the drawings, and proactively consults with the Technical Director in case of any questions or when a decision needs to be made regarding the building/rebuilding of a set piece.
  • Assists the Technical Director in managing shop space and tools.
  • Verifies, at the end of each workday, that the tool storage is in order; tools and construction materials are properly stored away; and that the space is swept and clean.
  • Must attend all introductory, preparatory and follow-up meetings regarding scenery as needed
  • Attends Tech Rehearsals, as needed.
  • Constructs special projects, as assigned.
  • Assists the Technical Director during load-ins and strike.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in technical theater (education in Technical Theatre may substitute for a portion of experience);
  • A working knowledge of all aspects of scenic design and production;
  • Knowledge of scenic construction, stage carpentry and welding;
  • The ability to troubleshoot and stay cool under pressure;
  • The ability to collaborate, lead, and work unsupervised as needed;
  • The ability to complete projects in a timely fashion;
  • Strong communication, negotiation and problem solving skills;
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and organization skills;
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds and a comfort working at height off lifts and ladders;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • A great sense of humor.
